About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Omaha, Nebraska, the Alpine Inn is a beloved chicken restaurant that invites you into a warm, rustic dining experience that feels both timeless and uniquely local. This unpretentious gem serves up some of the best fried chicken you’ll find anywhere, boasting a crackling, golden-brown crust that gives way to juicy, tender meat beneath. Every bite sings with a perfect balance of seasoning and frying expertise, making their Famous Fried Chicken Dinner an irresistible favorite for both regulars and newcomers alike.

The menu at Alpine Inn is a treasure trove of classic comfort food, centered around their stellar poultry offerings. From plump, meaty broasted chicken wings to hearty Chicken Livers and hand-breaded Chicken Tenders paired with crisp Onion Rings or golden French Fries, the selection caters to any craving for satisfying, savory indulgence. The homemade Macaroni Salad and creamy Coleslaw add a refreshing, tangy contrast that cleanses the palate and complements the rich flavors beautifully. For something a little different, their Fried Chicken with Potato Wedges or their down-home Chicken and Rings Dinner is always a winner.

Beyond the food, the Alpine Inn provides a dining atmosphere that feels like a cherished relic of another era. The setting is delightfully old-school, with a dimly-lit bar area you walk through on your way to the dining room, where large windows invite you to watch the charming local wildlife—particularly the famous raccoons—gathering outside as twilight falls. These critters have become almost part of the dining experience, bringing a whimsical touch to your meal and sparking laughter and conversation among guests.

Customers repeatedly praise the Alpine Inn not just for their exceptional food but also for the warmth of the staff and the lively energy of the space. One diner described the service as a “symphony,” perfectly orchestrated to make every visit smooth and memorable. The vibe carries a blend of a friendly neighborhood bar and a beloved family restaurant, making it an ideal spot to relax with a cold Wheat Beer or even enjoy playful items like the Cotton Candy or a zesty Bloody Mary.

Whether you’re craving a juicy Cheeseburger with thick-cut fries, the classic Boz Pork Tenderloin, or a plate of shrimp served alongside crispy wedges, Alpine Inn delivers robust flavors paired with heartfelt hospitality. And if you’re lucky, you’ll time your visit to witness the raccoons making their evening rounds, just as many patrons have fondly recounted. All told, Alpine Inn offers not just a meal, but a memorable experience where great food, friendly service, and a touch of local character come together to create something truly special.

Alpine Inn is the very definition of a "hidden gem". It is located off the beaten path, the building is old and rustic, and you pass through a dimly-lit bar past a pool table to get to the restaurant. The dining area has large windows to allow patrons to view raccoons feasting on chicken bones. [Unfortunately, not a single raccoon was present during our recent lunch there. Oh well, whatcha gonna do?] I'll tell you whatcha gonna do... eat some delicious fried chicken! That is their specialty -- and they do it right! I had the Tenders 4 Piece Dinner which featured large juicy strips that they obviously made on site. No frozen, out of the bag chicken items here--these were actually tender and delicious. My wife had Chicken w/ Onion Rings (the waiter staff likely saved the bones for those hiding raccoons). She enjoyed the 3 smaller pieces of chicken and we took the breast for later. My meal came with Macaroni Salad which was ok (I have a high bar when it comes to that side dish) and potato wedges. The wedges were a good-sized potato cut in fourths, then breaded and fried. Nicely done, but I would have liked some additional seasoning on them. Two of our group eschewed the chicken and ordered Hamburgers. Both of them liked their burgers which tells you that the kitchen can handle more than just chicken. As we left, we noticed the big selection of pies and cakes -- they looked great and we wished we would have saved some room for dessert. Might have to go back and sample some of those...

We went for dinner and so did the raccoons! If you want to see the raccoons go around 5:30-6:00. Outstanding chicken! It was a great place. We will go back for sure.

We sat at the windows and watched the raccoons outside! The staff feed them with table scraps and they come right up! So much fun! Biker bar vibe with fun raccoons! Broasted chicken wings (I could barely eat 2!) Were meaty and delicious Fun place to visit!

We really enjoyed the Alpine Inn and their fried chicken and gizzards. We even went back the next day for fried shrimp and more gizzards. Busy, but worth the wait. At dusk the raccoons came out.

Chicken was delicious, beer was cold…. Chicken fresh from the fryer. Moist, crunchy, seasoned well- exactly what you want. Service was phenomenal. Friendly server ran the table like a symphony conductor. I understand why the raccoons keep coming back for me, hopefully I’ll get a chance to come back too.

This place was awesome! There were definitely a lot of people who came just to watch the raccoons (we were two of them), but there were also a lot of locals as well. I don’t think the place has changed much in the last 40 years but somehow adds to the great ambiance. The food was solid and dirt-cheap, paired with excellent customer service!

Visiting from South Dakota stopped here for dinner! Came on a friday night and it wasn’t as packed as i thought it would be. Food was great! Service could be a little bit more attentive but oh well raccoons were great entertainment

Fabulous chicken, highly recommend. The ranch is awesome as well. And this place is known for its ambiance including the raccoons and all the birds it's so beautiful to sit by the window.
